Update to Project Timeline

Updated 3/11/23

The engine, trans and rear that will go into the car will require rebuilding and in the meantime the existing engine and drivetrain will remain in the car. The plan forward is to get the existing engine running and determine if the car can be raced as is. Work on the car will likely begin toward the end of March 23

What it really takes to Rebuild and Restore a Vintage Car

projectdodge.com will follow the rebuilding of this 74 Dodge Dart. The car will be transformed from a 225 – 6 cylinder to a small block for drag racing and some street use.  However, initially the car may be raced as a 6-cylinder while the small block engine, trans and rear are built. The outline below shows the different parts of the car that will be included in the rebuild. The car is being rebuild by (1) person and is not part of a commercial shop.  There is no team of people working on this car.  I was able to get access to the back section of a warehouse so I can work on the car and film the progress. Unlike the TV car shows that complete a rebuild in (1) hour, this project is in the real world where we have days jobs, family and limited time to work on a car.  If you are someone who is thinking about buying a car and restoring it, I propose to show just how much work it will really take. The rebuild is expected to take several months. Videos and photos will be posted on this site and not YouTube as commercials in videos are a pain in the ass. Steve E.
